Welcome to Disneyland!
OK. We can’t take all of our fantastic musicians on a Disney summer vacation this year, so we brought a little bit of Disneyland right to your piano. We are embarking on an adventure together to make music=making a lot of fun.
To start, you received a map. I would encourage you to make the map the front cover of your music binder.
In the link on your right, you will find check-sheets for each “land” in Disneyland, with several assignments themed to the sights and sounds of that land. For instance, you will learn about ragtime on Main Street, Jazz in New Orleans, and favorite character themes in Fantasy Land. Each land will also require new knowledge or listening skills—can you tell if the princess is dancing a waltz or a minuet? Learn the vocabulary for “getting faster” on Space Mountain. We will also be mastering basic skills like scales and chords.
Work hard! You can finish a typical check-sheet in 3 to 4 weeks, sometimes faster if you use your time well. Track your progress around the park—you can choose the order you want to go through the “lands” yourself.
We will be issuing “Music Passports”—if you would like your picture of your passport, please bring a small (fits on a business card with room for words) photo of yourself for us to add.
We welcome your feedback along the way as we journey together!
